Bellingham Technical College is hiring two Graveyard Custodians to help the BTC team maintain the cleanliness and safety of campus facilities during the overnight hours. This position includes routine cleaning and securing buildings. DESCRIPTION:
Bellingham Technical College is recruiting for a regular classified graveyard shift Custodian position. The position reports under the general supervision of the Facilities Director and may also take direction from the assigned Lead(s).
The position will perform a variety of routine housekeeping, custodial and light maintenance duties to maintain the cleanliness and care of the college facilities within assigned areas. These duties include, but are not limited to moving furniture, cleaning buildings, restrooms, and outdoor areas, and stocking supplies. The position is anticipated to begin in August 2025. The position is also responsible for serving a key role in the College emergency and management response efforts. Position provides a critical role of being and providing a "presence", either individually or with additional Facilities team members, as needed for safety issues during campus operations.

Required Physical Work Environment:
This position performs work in an environment that requires lifting, shoving, pulling, pushing, and carrying heavy objects; periodically in inclement weather; working with strong chemicals and cleaning agents; stooping, bending, reaching and walking. Must use ladders including, but not limited to, step-ladders and extension-ladders. Must have good hand dexterity; good vision, which includes good depth perception and field of vision. Must be able to follow and receive instructions and receive supervision. Must be able to have the physical ability to deal with environmental stresses, emergency situations, deadlines, a variety of duties and working alone or with others. Work environment includes wet and slippery floors and surfaces.
Person must have the ability to wear safety equipment which includes chemical protection goggles, safety glasses, face shields, dust masks, ear plugs, ear muffs, hard hats, back support belt/brace, wrist supports, elbow supports, knee pads, gloves, protective clothing, rain gear and protective foot wear. Carry the college cell phone while on duty and ensure that the phone is charged and operational; ensure that work is done in an efficient and safe manner.

Compensation and Work Schedule:
Salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement with Teamsters, Graveyard Custodian, range 4. The salary starts at $3,730 per month, $21.43 per hour, with annual increments thereafter up to $4,762 per month ($27.37 per hour) after 5 years of BTC experience in a regular custodian position.
Leave is subject to the Teamsters negotiated agreement which currently expires December 31, 2025. Currently, this position receives 8 hours per month of sick leave and starts with 10 hours per month (15 days per year) of vacation leave, 24 hours of personal leave and 12 paid state/college holidays per calendar year. The vacation leave and personal leave are available after successful completion of a 90 actual days worked probationary period. Benefits also include a Washington State insurance package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long-term disability; a retirement benefits package, with choice between the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) Plan 2 or 3, up to five days of bereavement leave, depending on relative, military leave per RCW 38.40.060 and paid civil/jury duty. Additional optional benefits include ability to participate in a medical Flexible Spending plan, Limited Purpose Flexible Spending plan, or Health Savings Account; Dependent Care Assistance; auto and homeowners insurance discounts, employee only tuition waiver assistance; and two voluntary investment (not matched) programs - TIAA (403b) or the State Deferred Compensation (457) plan.
The regular work schedule for this position is an 8-hour graveyard shift, Monday through Friday, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Occasional alternate shifts may be required, to provide for coverage for college events, projects, or inclement weather.· Completed BTC Online Employment Application
