Job Description

The Tow Truck Operator is responsible for operating a tow truck to move, haul, and transport vehicles or heavy equipment safely and efficiently. The operator assists in roadside services, including towing vehicles involved in accidents or breakdowns, and ensuring the safety and satisfaction of customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle Towing: Safely operate a tow truck to tow and transport vehicles to designated locations, including repair shops, impound lots, or other specified areas.
  • Roadside Assistance: Provide roadside assistance services such as jump-starting vehicles, changing flat tires, and delivering fuel to stranded motorists.
  • Accident Scene Response: Respond promptly to accident scenes to tow disabled vehicles, clear roadways, and ensure the safety of all involved parties.
  • Vehicle Recovery: Recover vehicles from ditches, embankments, and other difficult locations using winches, chains, and other equipment.
  • Customer Service: Interact professionally and courteously with customers, providing clear communication and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and maintenance on tow trucks and related equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Documentation: Complete required paperwork accurately, including towing logs, customer receipts, and incident reports.
  • Communication: Coordinate with dispatchers, law enforcement, and other team members to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (3 years); Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in towing or roadside assistance preferred.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of vehicle operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
  • Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions.

Work Environment:

  • Conditions: Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve exposure to traffic and other hazards.
  • Schedule: Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting; ability to operate heavy equipment and handle physically demanding tasks.
