Our Personalized Approach

Regardless of whether you choose to receive sedation, it is important to understand we take many measures to ensure patient comfort during the sedation dentistry phase.

Local anesthesia is administered using The Wand®, a computerized tool that virtually eliminates the pain of an injection.

Meanwhile, we take all the time necessary to explain your treatment and answer your questions so you can feel comfortable and confident under our care.

Care from Certified Professionals

Dr. Loiseau is certified to administer IV sedation, eliminating the need for costly services from an outside anesthesiologist.

Dr. Loiseau has also received additional training and certification on sedation dentistry to respond in the unlikely event of a medical emergency.

Rest Easy

During your consultation, we can help determine if sedation is right for you.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, more commonly known as “laughing gas,” is inhaled through a mask worn during the procedure.

You will remain able to respond to your doctor’s instructions and requests while feeling calm and comfortable.

The effects of nitrous oxide subside quickly, and patients can safely drive themselves home following treatment

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation involves taking a prescribed oral medication before treatment.

Once the medication takes effect, you will experience “twilight sleep,” meaning you will be heavily sedated, but not entirely unconscious.

You can expect to feel groggy for a period after treatment, and you should arrange for a friend or loved one to transport you home following your appointment.

Intravenous (IV) Sedation

IV sedation can be actively adjusted throughout treatment to make certain that you remain absolutely relaxed.

It is administered through a vein in your arm or on the back of your hand. You will not be unconscious, but very deeply relaxed.

When administered by a certified doctor such as Dr. Loiseau, IV sedation is safe and has a very low risk of adverse effects.

For further safety, we use Isolyte® IV containers, which are sterile and nonpyrogenic vessels free of bacteriostatic and antimicrobial agents. IV sedation can often benefit patients undergoing procedures such as a bone graft, dental implant placement, or tooth extraction.

Your oral health matters and nothing should stand between you and the outstanding dental care you need and deserve.

Anxiety, arthritis, and many other conditions can make it difficult to comfortably undergo dental care, but our doctors can help you overcome these roadblocks so you can receive the treatment you need.

How is a patient anesthetized?

The patient is put under nitrous oxide. It’s an inhaler that is administered into the nose. The doctor will give a prescription for it. Some people like to know how it works and what happens when it is administered so they can feel comfortable and relaxed. It won’t interfere with your life and won’t interfere with any activities.

Does it hurt when you're sedated?

Yes. There is slight discomfort, but I would say that it’s less painful than having a tooth pulled. When you wake up, it takes you a couple of minutes to fully wake up. Once you’re awake, you’re fine.

What does sedation dentistry involve?

Sedation dentistry involves putting a person to sleep through the use of medications. I take the patient to a comfortable room, and then I administer the medications. I also prepare the mouth for dental treatment by cleaning the area thoroughly.

What type of sedation is used?

Different types of sedatives are used depending on the patient’s needs. Sometimes I may need to combine different sedatives to obtain a desired level of sedation.

What are the benefits of using sedation dentistry?

The benefits of sedation dentistry include providing a relaxing environment for patients, as well as reducing anxiety. I can reduce patients’ pain and discomfort, which can help them relax during dental treatment.

Is the anesthesia effective?

It’s very effective.
